About the Mount Prospect, Illinois Area

Mount Prospect is a charming town in the northwest suburbs of Chicago with over 56,000 residents.

Conveniently located near Chicago but preserving a serene community, Mount Prospect offers residents an ideal blend of business and entertainment, offering amenities for individuals of all needs. The town proudly houses an extensive school system and strong base of retail and professional businesses while preserves a sense of small town charm.

The community has a sense of pride in preserving the town’s rich history. Yankees were the first to settle in Mount Prospect, establishing farms and prepping the land. However, it was the German immigrants, who later settled in Mount Prospect, who had the most significant impact on the Mount Prospect of today.

The train station that was built in the 1850s made the village blossom. The farming community grew, and stores and houses were built, creating a flourishing community that gained popularity with the growing population, a train station, and a train that stopped in town.

Mount Prospect was incorporated in 1917 and had a population of 300 people. The population continued to grow, forcing the town services and amenities to expand into the Mount Prospect known today.

Mount Prospect also offers numerous amenities from restaurants, shops, businesses, and more! Local and corporate eateries of all prices are only minutes away. Chain and local shops, stores, and boutiques service residents with service and product needs. In the early 1960s, Mount Prospect proudly built Randhurst, the first indoor, air-conditioned mall in the upper Midwest!

Enjoy award-winning public and private schools, several park districts with athletics for all ages, camps, aquatics, preschools, performing arts, golf, and much more.

Homes in Mount Prospect include condos, established and newly constructed, townhomes to million dollar homes with an ideal blend of price values and square footage. The areas are beautifully landscaped and conveniently located near amenities while preserving a quiet, residential atmosphere.

Along with Mount Prospect’s array of various classic and traditional homes and businesses, culture and amenities, the community is completed in the finest details including flowers, trees, and plants harmoniously nestled in ideal places for all to enjoy.

Mount Prospect is a community-first town, offering something for everyone from homes, businesses, dining and entertainment, enriched education, and amenities for every need. Residents are proud to say that the town slogan still rings true: “Where Friendliness is a Way of Life.”

Real Estate Tips
Cosmetic Improvements >Cosmetic Flaws

Many buyers make home buying decisions based primarily upon emotional reactions to the homes we show them. A freshly-painted house with clean windows and waxed floors will sell for top dollar, while a nearby home which needs a lot of cosmetic attention may languish on the market, even with a much lower asking price.

If you find yourself in the position of comparing two such houses, put your imagination to work. If the only difference is paint, cleaning, and carpeting (or getting unsightly furniture moved out), remember that these are fairly low ticket items that you would probably choose to do even if the house is in good shape. If you focus your attention on the location and the condition of the structure and the major systems, you may be able to get a "not-very-rough" diamond at a great price. If cosmetic problems make you nervous about the home, the structural inspection can answer most of your questions.
